Welcome back! Sorry for the delay on posting last week's activities. It took a little bit longer to get back into the rhythm of being in school than usual due to the break!
We started a new book theme this month- Tacky the Penguin! One of my goals with starting the literacy group was to introduce the kids to new books and characters, hoping to expand everyone's interests, and Tacky is one of my favorites! Kristin said that Ian even chose to write about Tacky during his OT session on Friday. I was happy to hear that.
The main activity that we are working on with the Tacky books is expanding our vocabulary. We will have 6 new vocabulary words with each story. We practice saying the words, a short definition, and using the words in sentences. We are creating vocabulary books that will be sent home at the end of the unit.
This week's words and short definitions:
1. odd (strange)
2. companions (friends)
3. puzzled (confused)
4. graceful (beautiful movement)
5. hearty (big)
6. dreadful (awful or terrible)
One follow up activity you could do at home is to watch the story on youtube with your child- point out the vocabulary words as you go and practice the definitions. Here is the link to the version we watched in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQxyt0T7iiU
I did not get a lot of great photos this week, but here's a few pictures of the week's happenings!
