This morning we juiced some apples and not only did everyone try it, everyone liked it! I don't know if this has ever happened before with a cooking project!
What a fun and busy week! We wrapped up "Old Lady" month with "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie." We re-told and sequenced the story, surveyed our friends and made a graph of our favorite Thanksgiving foods, and practiced sorting the words by numbers of syllables. This morning we juiced some apples and not only did everyone try it, everyone liked it! I don't know if this has ever happened before with a cooking project! The kids have all been looking forward to Halloween! After lunch everyone put on their costumes and headed to their general education classrooms for the parties and parade. Thanks to Deepti for stopping by to help us take a group photo! This one was my favorite! Have a great weekend! No school Monday or Tuesday- we will see everyone back on Wednesday for NOVEMEBER!! I can't believe it!

It was busy, busy, busy in Room 114 this week. Our book theme this week was There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat. The kids loved the book. One activity we did alongside the the book was to learn a little bit about bats. We put our words into a map and then used a graphic organizer to help us write some sentences. We have Art class once a week with Mr. Wyse. Most of the art they have made is currently being displayed but we will send it home soon. We are also lucky enough to have music three times a week with Mr. Knapp. The kids all love the songs, stories, and instruments he brings every week and it is definitely a preferred activity in our classroom. Here are some other candid shots from throughout the week! Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Please let us know if you can something fun your family did over the weekend so we can talk about it on Monday. Ready or not, here comes Halloween!! I can't wait to see everyone's costumes!
We had a great Spirit Week here in Room 114. The kids were excited all week long in anticipation of the Runathon! I brought some hats from home for Silly Hat day and we had silly turkeys, wizards, and witches doing writing, spelling, and music. We also had a surprise visit from Ms. Marquita and her husband, Matt. The kids (and adults) were all surprised and excited they dropped by! We had a beautiful and chilly day for the Runathon today. The kids all walked and ran with their general education classes and cheered for each other as well. We all had a great time: Sasha experienced his first ever Runathon as a Wines student and loved every minute, Rohan got the most high fives, Yufan ran the most laps as he ran with the 4th and 5th grades, Ian cheered for his kindergarten buddy and stuck his tongue out in a photo with the principal, and Eesha waved hello to lots of parents while waiting until the very end for the 5th graders to run. Carson missed the Runathon but Wesam got some great photos of him on the playground this afternoon. The kids should be good and tired- I know I am! Back to regularly scheduled programming next week and then bring on Halloween!
Have a great weekend! Our fifth week of school brought some nice Fall weather, a 4th grade trip to the bog, soccer outside, our Runathon pep rally, a special kale and banana smoothie at lunch (mixed reviews from our crew!), and the always eventful School Picture Day. We tried our best to get the best shot we could of everyone. Yufan looked especially dapper in his tie! Our literacy theme this month is "There was an Old Lady..." This week's book was "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Bell." Skills that we practiced included sequencing and retelling the story, sorting words into the number of syllables (the kids LOVED this- we counted the syllables of more than 30 words one day...), and using a graphic organizer to help us write some informational sentences about reindeer. Everyone is gearing up for the Runathon next week- hoping to have lots of fun pictures to share!
Have a great weekend! This week we finished up our Habitats unit that we started last Spring. Our last unit was Ocean Animals. We sorted ocean animals according to their classification, body covering, how they move, and the number of legs that each creature has. Completing this activity required the kids to use their fine motor, language, and social skills! We also wrapped up "Pete the Cat Month" and are all excited to move on to a new theme for October. Our last book was Rocking in My School Shoes. We used the words from the book to learn about nouns and verbs. Hopefully the kids can tell you that nouns are people, places, or things and that verbs are actions. We also put some words from the story in ABC order and finished up by making a graph of our favorite Pete the Cat book. Wheels on the Bus was the victor! Every day during calendar we talk about what we did today, what we did yesterday, and what we will do tomorrow. The kids dictate the sentences and I write them on the board. Then they are able to practice answering the question, "What did you do today?" Sometimes we have to help fill in the detail, but every day I am surprised by what the kids are able to remember and articulate to us. Have a great weekend!
