Hope everyone has an awesome break! See you in 2016!
We made it to the winter break! Time has gone very quickly this fall. Our week was busy! I used one of the kids' favorite books for our literacy group- The Snowy Day. We did lots of graphing, answered some comprehension questions, and took turns reading the story to the class. Here's Ian reading his version of The Snowy Day. Here's some of our "Snowy Day" work. Here's some of the work we did during calendar this week. The kids all do so well with remembering and articulating their daily activities. We have also added an activity at the end of calendar. We pull a WH question out of a bag that focuses on feature/function/class and it gives us an opportunity to work on our expressive vocabulary. The kids came up with a pretty big list of "Things that are Round" and I loved how everyone's unique interests were represented! Here's Eesha putting our daily work into our Wednesday folders to go home! This is a new activity for her and she's doing great! The day before breaks, Mr. Knapp always has "Request Day," and everyone gets to choose a favorite activity that they have done in music class. I loved that Ian and Sasha both chose books to share and they love that Mr. Knapp lets them be the teacher for their activity! Congratulations to Rohan and Yufan for getting their "Crab Award" in PE class. They just finished up their gymnastics unit and had to crab walk across the parallel bars to get the award! Today the 4th graders went on their annual trip to Yost Ice Arena for ice skating. This year we also got a short tour of the Michigan Hockey locker room. Yufan is an expert skater (who knew!) and Rohan did great for his first time out on the ice! He says he conquered his fear! Awesome job, boys!
Hope everyone has an awesome break! See you in 2016!

I can't believe how time has flown by this week (or how it is 50 degrees outside...). We finished up our Laura Numeroff series with, "If You Give a Dog a Doughnut!" We did some sentence writing about dogs, and made a graph of our favorite kind of doughnut (vanilla frosting for the win!). We also played a dog themed addition BINGO game! Today we talked about all the books we have read and everyone picked a favorite to write about. Next week we are going to do a favorite winter book, The Snowy Day, and then will have a new theme in January. We had five of our friends come in during lunch today to help make pizza. We also sliced apples and popped popcorn. It was great to see the kids working together and having fun! Thanks to the PTO for funding this activity for us! On Wednesday Margaret did a combined lunch bunch. They played Apples to Apples! Have a great weekend!
I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving! It was such a short week last week and with half the class absent on Tuesday it didn't make much sense to do an update then! This week has been back to normal busy! Our book for literacy group was If you Give a Pig a Pancake. We practiced patterns, and sequencing both the story and the the steps to making a pancake. We looked at pictures of pigs, described them and learned two new words (snout and wallow!) and wrote sentences. We have one more book in this series next week and then we will do a winter themed book for our last week before vacation. I am so grateful to our PTO for sponsoring a Great Idea Grant for our Cheers to Peers program. We will be cooking lunch together once a month with some of our friends! We will be making pizza, and have apples and popcorn. We are getting ready to start this next Friday! Yufan and Ian drew 6 names from the kids that have participated in Peer to Peer so far, and helped me address the invitations and we will pass them out on Monday! Our friends, Pete and Kate, from Mrs. Fisher's class came in today to do some activities. Eesha and Pete delivered a message to the office and also watered the plants. Pete and Yufan started working together on a book about airplanes. Ian and Kate wrote a story together and then Kate worked with Carson on some fine motor and literacy activities. Have a great weekend!
