This week the kids have been making silly sandwiches with Margaret.
Have a great weekend! On to Week 4 and the end of September!
It's hard to believe that we are wrapping up our third week of school! Our book for literacy group was Pete the Cat: My Four Groovy Buttons. Some of the skills we practiced in our group included greater than/less than and WH comprehension questions of the story. In our adapted P.E. class with Ms. Melissa the kids got to bowl this week. They also have been walking outside, practicing throwing and catching, yoga, and some short obstacle courses. The kids have all been excited about going this week. We have Speech and OT every week! Margaret and Kristen are the best! They bring lots of fun activities into our classroom every week!

The second week of school has been busy! Our book of the week has been Pete the Cat, I Love my White Shoes. We practiced sequencing the events of the story, made patterns with colored shoes, practiced the concepts of "if-then" and cause and effect, and also colored a smaller version of the story. One of our students wrote his own version of the story, "Thomas the Tank Engine Loves His Red Wheels!" Ms. Evaldson, our librarian, also had the kids draw Pete the Cat on Kidpix! Enjoy some pictures from our work as a class this week and a few other candid shots from our daily activities around the school! Our first week of school was busy adjusting to a new classroom, a new schedule, and reconnecting with teachers and friends, old and new! One new thing we are trying this year is to have a literacy/book theme each month. We will do some math, art, language, and of course reading to accompany the theme. Since this is new, I picked a theme for September that I already knew the kids liked: Pete the Cat. Week One: We read Pete the Cat: Wheels on the Bus. We talked about rules to follow when riding the school bus. We practiced the concepts above, below, next to and between. Everyone made their own book and some even read their books to the class. The kids worked in small groups to create a bus! Some writing! Check out that amazing spacing between the words!! Playing a game with our 3rd grade general education peers in PE class... Bring on Week #2! We are READY!
We have 6 amazing students this year in Room 114! Our first day of school was hot, hot, hot! It was great to see everyone and hear tales of bike riding, camp, double decker planes, swimming, and other summer fun.
It's going to be a great year! |
