We are going to finish up our 5 Little Monkeys unit this upcoming week. This week we finished up 5 Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek and also started some activities with 5 Little Monkeys Reading in Bed. With each story we are answering comprehension questions, sequencing the story, and writing a short summary of the story.
With our third week of school coming to a close, we are starting to fall into our routines with smoother transitions! Everyone is working hard on their own goals and I've noticed some emerging friendships that are new and different this year. Other happenings this week included some robotics in 5th grade PLTW, and creating possible logos for the Runathon t-shirts in 5th grade Art. We played several games on the Tap-it, and added some movement into our afternoons with some Just Dance videos on youtube. Everyone loves to Gummy Bear! We are planning on having another great week to wrap up September! Next post in October!!

We jumped right into our second week of school! We finished up some activities with Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed including sharing the individual stories that each student created. We also started reading Five Little Monkeys Play Hide and Seek. We answered some comprehension questions about the story as well as sequenced the stories with words or pictures. Fourth grade always plans LOTS of fun field trips and took their first trip of the year to the Huron River. Ian, Sasha, and Mrs. Bauer had lots of fun on a beautiful almost Fall day! The third graders worked hard measuring shadows, the fifth grade built cars and tested them for distance in science (not pictured, sorry!!), structures were built during OT, we drew pictures, we read books, we had music class, peers were greeted, and many, many 5 Star Days were had! So much is going on every day with all seven students! Our teaching assistants, Wesam, Ms. Martha, and Mrs. Bauer, play such a critical role in making the learning happen for your kids, and we simply would not be able to function without them. I spent most of the day on Friday as part of the interview team for a 4th TA, and I am hopeful we will have that slot filled soon and it will complete our classroom team.
I am excited to see what next week brings! Until then... The first week of school is in the books!! We welcomed three new students, one teaching assistant, one student teacher, and a new OT into our Room 114 family. Overall it was a great first week. Our returning students fell right into the routine and were great leaders and examples in helping our new students learn about how our classroom moves throughout the day! One of the activities we started last year was having a monthly book theme. We use the book theme to practice various literacy, math, language, vocabulary, and writing skills. We are starting off with the Five Little Monkeys. The first story was Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. I wrote a similar story entitled Five Little Doughnuts Jumping on the Bed, and then had the kids each pick a favorite object or animal that they would like to use to create their own story. We had everything from trains to lizards to grapes. Look for those to come home next week after we have the chance to share them! I did not have tons of time to take a lot of photos of other weekly happenings; I was so busy! Here's a few of the best of what we did manage to capture! I am excited to help facilitate as much learning and growth this year as we can, and look forward to helping our classroom community come together! As always, thanks for your support and your communication as we work together to help your child increase their independence! Let me know if you have questions.
Reminder: Curriculum Night is Tuesday. Feel free to visit both your child's general education classroom and stop by 114 as well! |
