Hello! I hope everyone has enjoyed the beautiful weekend! The last two weeks have been busy! We all enjoyed the 5th grade music concert, packed lunches for Lunches with Love, played a few games of Kahoot, and having been working hard on our singing, dancing, and acting for our 4th Wall play about an adventure to the moon. During our Behavior Basics group, we have been learning about some communication basics: personal space, voice volume, and eye contact. We also finished up our "mystery picture," during math meeting and have added some new activities to our math meeting routine. We've also been getting outside as much as we possibly can to enjoy the nice weather. The two murals in our hallway have been completed, so I've included pictures of those as well. I will try and get a photo of the 5th grade mural as well!

Hello! We had such a busy week in 114! We enjoyed Fionn and Jonathan, a guitar and fiddle playing duo from Ireland who also taught us about some Irish mammals. On Thursday, we had our first 4th Wall theater class. We are just at the beginning of the process, but excited to see how our play comes together. Mr. Aral and Ms. Jess are our teachers and our play will be about Space Adventures! Friday was Victor's Day. Thank you so much to Valerie, Don, and Cathy for coming along. They had record attendance (1000 kids!) and I was so thankful for the extra help so we could safely navigate that busy environment. We ran into so many old friends, and that part is always fun. Our Behavior Basics focus this week was on having good manners (saying please, thank you, excuse me, and I'm sorry). I also witnessed several good apologies this week where the kids were following the script that we learned last week. Enjoy the photos!
The big event this past week was mural painting. Wines is partnering with Tree Town Murals to paint 5 murals throughout the school. Last week every student in grades 3-5 got a chance to paint on one of three murals. Our little class was able to be part of each of the three murals- Jack and Ella painted on the 5th grade mural in the modular building while the rest of the class had a turn with the murals in the 3-4 and specials hallway. I will try and get some shots of the finished projects as the artists put on the final touches. I was really happy that every student was able to contribute to the mural project! Thanks to Mrs. Rodriguez for the great idea and the PTO for funding such a great project! Before Spring Break Kayla was able to participate in the 4th grade Kids Fair field trip to meet her U of M pen pal. The past two weeks we have brought back some lessons from our "Behavior Basics" curriculum. I'm sure you have seen the social stories and activities coming home. The week before break we focused on not taking things that don't belong to us and this week we worked on apologizing. We learned a basic script for apologizing and practiced apologizing to both teachers and friends. It was great to see the kids generalizing this to situations where they needed to apologize in a real life scenario. We also worked on looking at the person we are apologizing to and using a calm voice.
We also started our April science unit which is focused on learning 4 organs of the human body and their functions (brain, heart, lungs, and stomach) and also the parts of a plant and their functions (roots, stem, seeds, leaves, and flower). For our returning students from last year, we were able to connect this to our unit last year learning about photosynthesis, plant life cycles, and the human body and systems. Enjoy the remainder of this week's photos! |
