We had a busy and fun week in Room 114! Our theme book this week was "If You Give a Moose a Muffin." We did several activities with this book including measuring different items in our room with "moose tracks" and making a graph of what muffin is more popular: chocolate chip or blueberry. We also practiced some social interactions with our peers by asking some of our friends in Ms. Yribar and Mr. Mosher's class what kind of muffins they like! Mr. S, our adapted PE specialist, came by this week to check up on us and practice throwing, catching, and kicking with the kids. They are all doing great and making progress with their gross motor skills! Yufan and Rohan participated in a 4th grade field trip to the downtown library. Their 4th grade class worked with a program called Songsters to write some songs and then performed them at the library. Last but certainly not least was our Blue Ribbon assembly. The kids were all excited about their new t-shirts and the overall sense of positivity and enthusiasm around the school. Due to the timing of our assembly, I didn't manage to get a shot of everyone in their shirts, but here are two of our "Blue Ribbon Kids!" Have a great weekend!

It has been a busy week in and around Room 114! Our literacy theme was "If You Give a Cat a Cupcake." We used the story to practice "cause and effect." We also talked about some of the features of cats. We have done this activity with several other animals and for the first time most of the kids were able to independently use the graphic organizer to write their own sentences! It was great to see everyone working independently! We had fun this week again with our peers as our Recess Buddies! It has been great to see some more spontaneous interactions with our peers outside. We also have peers coming into the classroom for some small groups, including our Speech group that Margaret does on Friday afternoons. The highlight of our week was our field trip to Greenhills School for the TWall/BWall event. This was the first year that Wines has participated but we will definitely return. It was such a well run event and the kids all had a really great time. Each of our kids had a partner from Greenhills to participate in the activities with. There was dancing, face paint, a bubble machine, arts and craft, a cake walk, balloon animals, basketball, a magic show, nail art, petting zoo, and carnival games. We saw several of our favorite Wines alumni that have moved on to middle school programs. The Tom Wall foundation also hosts an event called Victor's Day that we hope to attend in the spring. Here are some shots of the kids with their partners from the photo booth. Here's the whole gang from Wines along with our Greenhills partners!
Have a great weekend everyone! Hello! This has been a short, but productive week! Unfortunately I do not have a lot of photos to share- I am having technical difficulties with my phone and am due for a trip to the Apple store this weekend, I guess! I will add more photos in later if I can recover them from my phone! Our November/December literacy theme books are all by Laura Numeroff. The first book was If you Give a Mouse a Cookie. This week we practiced sequencing/retelling the story and alphabetizing sight words from the story. Today we talked about some of the characteristics of mice and put the words into the sentences using the sentence starters, "Mice can..." Mice have..." and "Mice are...". This week after a lot of planning we officially got some of our "Cheers to Peers" program up and going. Our first program is called "Recess Buddies." Each of our students will have two recess buddies that they will play with at lunch recess on Tuesday and Thursday (and sometimes Friday!) We had 123 general education students in grades 3-5 sign up to be peer buddies! Our fist session of Recess Buddies on Thursday went really well and we saw some great interactions! I am hoping that as the year progresses we will see more natural and spontaneous interactions happening on the days that we don't have official recess buddies. Here are a few photos from Thursday's lunch recess! Have a great weekend!
