In science we started talking about animal classifications and habitats. We are also using this theme in math (charting animals according to their categories) and literacy group (non-fiction books about animals in the ocean). Last week we started reading about the sea otter. Did you know a sea otter can hold it's breath for 5 minutes? We made it about 25 seconds! We celebrated Elvis' birthday with Mr. Knapp, saw Jet Tila, a celebrity chef from the Food Network, and started practicing multiplication during Math Meeting.
It felt like we never left! It didn't take too long for everyone to get back into the rhythm of school. It's nice to get a break, but the structure and routine of the school day can also provide stability for us all! In science we started talking about animal classifications and habitats. While it feels like the last two weeks of school before the break were action packed, sadly I do not have the photographic evidence to prove that! Perhaps in the new year I should resolve to take more photographs! 4th grade was busy with two field trips- Downtown Library for Songsters and the annual ice skating trip at Yost. We wrapped up our social studies unit on traffic signs and city/country. We will move back into science in January learning about animal classifications and habitats. These concepts will also be reinforced during our math meeting where we will make a chart of animals based on their classification. I hope everyone had wonderful breaks and am looking forward to our little school family being back together again tomorrow!
