The 80's and 90's seemed to drag on with all the inclement weather and break days, but we finally celebrated the 100th day of school this past Monday. We added some different activities into our Math Meeting and centers to celebrate the 100th day of school. The kids had the most fun playing the "100 Second Game" where they had to see how many times they could do 1 thing in 100 seconds. 100 seconds seems like a short amount of time, but I bet you haven't tried to blink as many times as you can for that time. It felt like forever! We also started using a grid to create a "mystery picture."

Hello! We had 4 consecutive days of schools of school this week, and I believe we all enjoyed the consistency and return to structure and routine! (Maybe it was just me!!!)
I have quite a few pictures to share going back to Valentines Day. The big news in Room 114 is that we've been counting (actual) school days and on Friday we hit 99! So tomorrow we will not only get to compose a 10 with our cubes, but also get to compose a 100. (I was unsure about how we were going to do this with our Unifix cubes, but Mrs. Bauer has a great idea!) We also finished up our chart where we counted animals in different classifications. We've been talking about famous world landmarks in Social Studies and also carrying this over to our literacy group where we are focusing on one landmark at a time and writing about it. Most kids post these writings on Seesaw- thanks to all who follow along and comment. Well, we almost had a full week! Hopefully *this* is the week we will be at school on a Wednesday!! We worked on our new social studies unit this week. We are learning about 8 different famous landmarks around the world: the Statue of Liberty, the Sydney Opera House, the Pyramids, the Eiffel Tower, the Collesseum, the Taj Mahal, Big Ben, and the Great Wall of China. One of the activities we did this week was to look at a world map and put the landmarks on the correct county. We also did a little bit of writing about Valentines this week. Mostly we were just focused on getting back into a solid routine of school after the unexpected days off over the past few weeks. Enjoy some photos!
What an odd couple of weeks! I'm no longer sure what week of school we are on! I can tell you with a relative degree of certainty that we finished Day 89 of school on Friday! Due to all the weather related closings it feels like it's taken a long time to get through the 80's! I'm hopeful for some consistent days at school so we can all get back into our routines and schedules.
We are a little behind schedule but will be wrapping up our science unit on animal classifications and habitats and switching back to social studies. We will be learning about some famous world landmarks around the world. I have a few pictures to share of the last couple of weeks. Enjoy! It felt like we never left! It didn't take too long for everyone to get back into the rhythm of school. It's nice to get a break, but the structure and routine of the school day can also provide stability for us all!
In science we started talking about animal classifications and habitats. We are also using this theme in math (charting animals according to their categories) and literacy group (non-fiction books about animals in the ocean). Last week we started reading about the sea otter. Did you know a sea otter can hold it's breath for 5 minutes? We made it about 25 seconds! We celebrated Elvis' birthday with Mr. Knapp, saw Jet Tila, a celebrity chef from the Food Network, and started practicing multiplication during Math Meeting. While it feels like the last two weeks of school before the break were action packed, sadly I do not have the photographic evidence to prove that! Perhaps in the new year I should resolve to take more photographs! 4th grade was busy with two field trips- Downtown Library for Songsters and the annual ice skating trip at Yost. We wrapped up our social studies unit on traffic signs and city/country. We will move back into science in January learning about animal classifications and habitats. These concepts will also be reinforced during our math meeting where we will make a chart of animals based on their classification. I hope everyone had wonderful breaks and am looking forward to our little school family being back together again tomorrow!
Hello! I have a few pictures to share now of our last two weeks at school. We finished up our unit on Polar animals by sorting our animals into those that live at the North Pole, South Pole, or both! We are doing some activities and lessons with lines and shapes this month during our math meeting. Make sure that you are checking in on Seesaw to see and hear what's happening at school!
Just a brief post to show off all we are thankful for! Thanks to Kelly, Wesam, and Mary for planning a Thanksgiving craft! I feel like I have a few strengths as a teacher... planning and carrying out holiday crafts is not one of them. Thanks to the ladies that always have my back!
Was everyone ready for snow? I sure was not! When we leave for Thanksgiving break we will have completed 54 days of school (That's 5 tens and 4 ones, for those who are counting!) Time flies!
In November we have been focusing on non-fiction text during our literature group. We have been reading a non-fiction book about an animal and then using a graphic organizer to write facts about the animal. Then we take the graphic organizer to write sentences. You will see those come home in written paragraph form and also typed on Seesaw. We have read about penguins and the arctic fox so far. I was able to tie in last month's social studies unit and we located both the north pole (where arctic foxes live) and the south pole (where penguins live). We should have time to learn about one more animal in November before switching back to fiction text in December. Enjoy some photos of the last couple weeks! We are having fun and we are learning! Hello everyone! I have lots of pictures to share this week as there was lots of fun happening! We loved seeing everyone's costumes this year and the kids had fun and treats at their classroom parties. There was a large group of Wines teachers who dressed up as crayons this year and our classroom team participated in that. On Friday, we went to Greenhills School. The kids explored the school with their Greenhills buddies and enjoyed balloon animals, a petting zoo, magic show, carnival games, cake walk, and free time in the gym. It's a fun event full of old friends and new friends! Outside of that, some teaching and learning was also going on! We finished up our October graph of Halloween and each of the kids made their own version of the graph. Some of the kids had time to post and write about their graphs on Seesaw. We finished up our social studies unit on the cardinal directions and map. Look for those workbooks to come home. There are some blank pages in the workbooks that can be used for review or practice over the summer. We are retuning to science in November and talking about characteristics of living things.
